Step-by-step guide to creating great videos

✅ 1. Define the Purpose and Audience
  • What is the goal of your video? (e.g., tutorial, promo, vlog, testimonial)
  • Who are you speaking to? (Tailor tone and content accordingly)

📝 2. Write a Script or Outline
  • Intro: Hook the viewer quickly (within the first 5–10 seconds)
  • Body: Main message, tips, or story — keep it concise
  • Call-to-Action: What should viewers do next? (e.g., subscribe, comment, visit website)
Tip: Write how you speak - naturally! Read your script aloud to catch awkward phrasing.

🎤 3. Check Your Audio
  • Use an external microphone whenever possible — lavalier, shotgun, or USB mics are much better than built-in mics.
  • Avoid echoey rooms; soft furnishings reduce reverb.
  • Test sound levels before filming.
  • If using a phone: record with wired or wireless earbuds that include a mic.

💡 4. Set Up Lighting
  • Natural light (facing a window) is your best free option — avoid light behind you.
  • Use a 3-point lighting setup if possible:
    • Key Light: Main source (at a 45° angle)
    • Fill Light: Softer light to reduce shadows
    • Back Light: Separates subject from background
  • LED ring lights or softboxes are great for beginners.

📷 5. Stabilize Your Camera
  • Use a tripod, stack of books, or a phone mount — no handheld unless it’s part of the style.
  • Use a portable stand - even a small camera shake can ruin the video!
  • If you’re walking/talking, consider a gimbal or image-stabilized camera/phone.

🪑 6. Framing and Background
  • Frame yourself using the Rule of Thirds — eyes about ⅓ from the top of the screen.
  • Keep the background clean and relevant — avoid clutter and distractions.
  • Watch for weird shadows, plants "growing" out of heads, or light switches that distract.

🧍‍♂️ 7. Posture and Delivery
  • Stand or sit comfortably upright to project energy.
  • Speak clearly and at a natural pace.
  • Smile when appropriate — it builds connection.
  • Look at the camera lens, not the screen.

🛠 8. Film with Redundancy
  • Record a few seconds before and after you speak.
  • Do multiple takes to give yourself editing choices.
  • Clap or snap at the start of each take (helps sync audio/video).

✂️ 9. Basic Editing TipsUse beginner-friendly software:
  • CapCut, iMovie, DaVinci Resolve, or Canva Video Editor
Essential edits:
  • Trim dead space
  • Add subtitles or captions
  • Include music (make sure it's royalty-free)
  • Insert text or callouts for key points
  • Normalize audio levels (no sudden volume jumps)

📤 10. Export & Share
  • Export in 1080p (Full HD) at minimum.
  • Use appropriate aspect ratio (e.g., 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok/Instagram Reels).
  • Name your file clearly, and add a strong thumbnail if uploading to YouTube.
